Generic name: Azithromycin.
Zithromax is a macrolid antibiotic used to treat respiratory, skin and other infections. Infections of soft tissues caused by Chlamydia trachomatis are also treated with Zithromax.
Zithromax treats such diseases like bronchitis, pneumonia, skin and mucous membrane infections, otitis media, sinusitis and pharyngitis, tonsillitis, gonorrhea, urethritis and cervicitis, as well as Lyme disease.
Azithromycin is a representative of azolides. It’s biologically active in relation to the most gram-positive and gram-negative infections, including Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes, as well as other types of streptococcus.
Side effects caused by Zithromax:
Reactions of the gastroenteric tract: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, increased liver activity, large bile flow.
Possible allergic reactions, especially allergy-predisposed people may have: Quincke’s edema, anaphylactic shock and urticaria.
Central nervous system: dizziness, headaches.
Kidneys: acute and subacute nephritis.
Do not use Zithromax if you are allergic to any ingredient in Zithromax and to other macrolide antibiotics, or if you are taking pimozide.
